Evidence of continued musical activity can now be heard outside my studio by checking out the brand new Ukuphambana MySpace page, featuring new, unreleased tracks described by one listener as "well arranged cataclysms" and "a rave in a Bosch painting." Click on the link and see whether you agree...MySpace users: please feel free to leave comments and feedback. Please note: the link above is also the best way now to contact me and hear new Ukuphambana sounds, though I will make an effort to keep this page updated with news about shows, new releases, and so on.

First site update in an absurd span of time. So what's happened in the interval? Plenty! Late 2003, the remix album Ukuphambana Presents: Brennschluss was released. Featuring wildly diverse versions of an Ukuphambana track of the same name originally featured on Gritware Composite, the album played on college stations across the USA well into early 2004, breaking the CMJ top ten several times. Also, it sounds amazing -- much respect to all the artists involved. One reviewer at Re:Gen wrote: "each one of these mixes sounds different and are all very creative...ingenious..." And industrial.org called Brennschluss "a derailed technology transfer between non-native language speakers that has lead to a barely controlled electronic chaos." Copies of Brennschluss are still available at the Voidstore, so if you haven't got your hands on it already, you should really buy one. Early 2004, Blod Records released a new edition of their underground zine, Blod Seven, including a pair of bonus "noise and hardcore techno" CDRs containing a smorgasboard of great material, including Ukuphambana track "Reality Is Different", the noisiest and harshest sounding Ukuphambana track to date. Also featured on the comp are such notables as V/VM, Crank Sturgeon, Mochipet, PTSMC, Mad EP, and Abstract Polygon. You can still get a copy here. Summer and autumn of 2004 brought Ukuphambana involvement in a series of rehearsals and performances with electrovideomove, an improvisational performance project featuring a rotating lineup of sound, video, and dance artists. A limited-edition CDR documenting this time, featuring two Ukuphambana tracks on the avant-guard tip, has been pressed up by legendary noise outlet RRRecords. As you might expect, copies of this are also available for purchase. 2005 was a year of regrouping, retooling, and renovation. In April, I officially became a family man with the arrival of my first son, Darren, who continues to make life (even more) interesting, busy, and wonderful. In May 2005, Megahertz Records released a limited edition cassette tape featuring the Ukuphambana track Ungral Disastro. Copies of this appear still to be available at the Megahertz site. I personally only have two copies, and you can't have either of them! Changes, consolidations, and alterations have been made to both my musical and professional life, involving much chaos and many learning experiences. In the balance, though, the end result has been worthwhile. Musical ideas continue to flow, and with any luck, will someday again be heard outside my studio! News will be posted here when information is available.

A new Ukuphambana remix will soon be featured on an album by funk-metal artist Bryce Beverlin II (recording as save vs/ spells), on a new remix release on Insides Music. I made with my very own two hands. It's good. I just discovered that the Ukuphambana track Refried Negotiations has been released on the Noise Sux Volume One compilation produced by Danish noise imprint Legion Sudan. This disc also features a track by Voidstar attitude-adjustors Pine Tree State Mind Control, and loads of other noise freaks I don't know anything about. Check out the Ukuphambana profile at the Boston Society of Mechanics web site. If my picture is missing, this should naturally be interpreted as evidence that I am a mysterious shadowy presence, and in no way should be construed to mean that I forgot to send them one. Last but not least: work continues on the Brennschluss remix disc, with a new confirmed mix by Frozen Empire power noise workhorses Pneumatic Detach.

Many developments are gestating for the coming year. Biggest and baddest is the impending release of the Brennschluss remix album, featuring reworked versions of the Uku track Brennschluss (originally featured on 2000's Gritware Composite album) by: Cathode Ray Tube, Technology Will Fail, Pine Tree State Mind Control, Codec, Neutronik, Morning Gold Fix, Nau-Zee-auN, Kolo, Jekyll Island, rising!man!incinerator, Soplerfo, and Datach'i. Something of an epic adventure, considering the original track was about two minutes long! Other releases and show announcements will be made here as things fall into place. With Gritware Studios near-fully recovered (finally) from last year's water damage and flooding, I expect 2003 to be an exciting year.
